The Solution:
Determine why you think you’re qualified for this job? There must be a reason you believe you can do it. Have you done it before as part of another job or as a volunteer or hobby? If your skills and experience for this job come from a past employment, market yourself by highlighting related aspects of the job and minimizing non-related tasks. For example, a former hotel Housekeeper applying a Front Desk Clerk position could highlight her ability to mulit-task and customer service skills rather than her cleaning skills. If she add to this evidence of her computer skills [through hobby, school, previous jobs], excellent presentation in-person and over the phone [demonstrate it by applying in-person and following up over the phone], and an eagerness to learn to [demonstrate during conversation].  When you used transferable skills be sure to follow The Rules listed in, The 6 Reasons You’ll Get the Job, pages 112-116. Lastly, rather than using a chronological resume format or application which highlight the problem, use a Skills format resume and ‘side doors’ to highlight your transferable strengths (Part 2, The 6 Reasons).
